Shipments in this class must be declared with their UN number and packing group, and carriers must be certified for dangerous goods transport.
Subclasses
- Category IWhite label with one red vertical line. The transport index must not exceed 0, and radiation levels on the surface must not exceed 0.005 mrem/hr.
- Category IIYellow label with two red vertical lines followed by a maximum index reading on the surface, up to 1.0, and surface radiation level greater than 0.5 mrem/hr, but no more than 50 mrem/hr.
- Category IIIPackages with a maximum surface radiation level of 200 mrem/hr, or containers whose transport index is less than or equal to 1.0.
- Category IVFissionable materials. This label is white and must contain the word "FISSIONABLE" in black at the top.
